Morals

I wonder if there is anyone with exact same morals as me? I wonder if when we get down to the particular and situations that are very exact we would agree in all the exact same way. Since we all have different morals and points of view it makes it hard to for people to agree. I think that in America where judges interpet the law, it helps so that they can apply the law to different situations.

election

I get chills watching Obama's acceptance speech. This is such a historical moment for American and although I did not vote for him, I am so proud of what this means. I know that millions of children will be affected by these events and I hope that they pursue their dreams and know that no matter your backround you can achieve your dreams.
I do have to say that I am dissappointed in many states that passed gay marriage bans. I cannot stress how this shatters my heart. I know that their are many young Americans that are already oppressed and are fearful of coming out. Now they cannot be themselves and their futures seem bleak. Marriage is being with who you love, whats so hard about that?

Although we are talking about freedom we should look at the degree to which we are free here is the United States. I am sure most would not argue that we are a great country that experiences alot more freedom than other countries. I mean alot of our money goes the government, but how much money does the average person see in comparison to how much they put in. I just worry that more and more of my money will be taken and I will not see that money. I know I personally benefit from governement funds but is it nessecary to take more of my money??

The more we discus about determinism I think about pre-destination, which is the belief that no matter what you do in life it has already been determined by God. It was made well know by John Calvin and is used in Calvinism. I know that it is theology but it ties in very well with what we are studying. Although I am not religious, I do think that you determine your future. I think that your life would be very pointless if you could not determine what you are going to do with your future, it would not be worth living if you were not in control of where you are going.

Terrorism

I feel as though I have been given miss-information. I do not believe that 650 are killed worldwide annually by terrorism. I know that more than 650 people have died in the war in Iraq. I thought I am supposed to question what I am being told. I question 650 people because I believe its media propaganda against the Bush administration. I think we have miss guided information to make people feel as though the war we are fighting is not important. But I knew coming to a philosophy class I assumed correctly when I knew I would have to deal with people’s views and nobody likes to be called wrong. A movie called “What the west needs to know” talks about the radical Islamic religion and jihad from people who were once part of the religious wars. Also here is a website that states that 11,801 people have died from Islamic terrorism since 9/11: http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/.

p.s. 650 since 9/11 would have only been 4,550. Research the facts. .

Propaganda

As we in GPHIL talk about propaganda we can look at a great example, the presidential election. The Democratic National Convention is receiving huge press. Democratic nominee Obama has become a celebrity. He has used propaganda in an excellent way to excel his message of "change". I am not an Obama supporter but I am impressed at his media coverage and celebrity friends. He uses his message to directly challenge McCain. "Change" is not necessary going to happen fast, after all there is a system and a huge congress where you need hundreds of men to agree before something is passed. Nevertheless Obama has ridden this phrase all the way and hopes it takes him to the White House. Sometimes standing opposite of all your competitors can make you popular....
